Farm Projects
Sometimes I question my sanity for telling my wife I can build anything. Yet the ideas she's come up with over the years have definitely kept me entertained. Following are projects I've either completed or she's added to my "honey-do" list".
Chicken Mansion

She's never had chickens before so the feeders were filled from the outside, the eggs were gathered from the outside, you walked through the door you see to a room that separated her from the scary tiny pterodactyls she swore would eat her toes. The same ones you see our granddaughter lovingly holding and showing how to go out the chicken door - before there was a door. She also had it painted and decorated before I could even finish the handrails...
Mother's Day Raised Garden

What started with some raspberry bushes and her idea of just a "little raised garden bed" turned into quite the space. The archways had room for peas & green beans to grow, tiered strawberry planters were added to the sides, I saved days and multiple trips with the wheelbarrow by renting a small skid steer to load the dirt. Fresh veggies, teaching the grandchildren how to garden and create compost for the worms, including watching my wife's happiness every time she's in her garden made every minute of this project worth it. The only regret may be showing Luke & Luna there were carrots in the ground. They love carrots. We no longer have carrots.
The Neighbors With The Fence
That's what they called us. In a neighborhood where fencing was typically horse fencing or a simple three rail if any at all...
When we moved into our new place it was on a busy road and her fear of our then very old St Bernard escaping was high. So a 6ft solid cedar fence went up around the entire 2+ acre property before we even moved in. 2100 linear feet. This project still makes me twitch. However, after over five years now I will at least consider another doing another cedar fence project. Just not 2100 linear feet please.
Goat Rapunzel Tower

We don't have goats. This is on my honey-do list. I don't ask questions any more.
BEFORE
A Tree House for Goats
This client's project was one another contractor started and she needed me to finish. Her idea of the trees going through the roofline was great but in the end too much damage to the structure long term to make it work. A lot of repairs and shoring up to ensure weight load for the top story, leaving the bottom open for larger animals. Materials were reused to save money wherever possible. The client wanted the ramp straightened and material added to help keep hoofs trimmed. We also added an elsatromeric floor for easy cleaning with lift up hatches on the second floor to sweep out any waste instead of hauling. Finishing touches included separate rooms, lighting, windows, shutters, paint, shelving, panels and even hooks for their coats. The new occupants were quite happy with their new home and up the ramp before I could get the hand rails on. This seems to be the trend.
